Busy as a....Beeeeeouch!
It was a beautiful sunny day and I decided to do some of that yard work that had been piling up.Now to set the stage, I love to work outside and was soaking up the sun and fresh air making great progress. I decided to move a pile of Garlic Mustard that we had dug up weeks before deeper into the woods. I dug both hands deep into the pile and pulled a good amount away from the pile. Before I knew it I felt a sharp sting on my right Beehand, and then another. Well, I'll tell you I soon found out that Ican still run the 100 yard dash in no time flat.

The Ground bees did not like having their homes dug up. They tend to retaliate by pumping your arm full of poison that makes it swell up really big and fast. As I watched my arm swell to twice its’ normal size I realized that if the stings had been to my neck I would have been in big trouble. I was lucky to have my emergency herb kit handy. Knowing that this could happen to anyone I realized that it was time to spread the word of emergency herbs, so here goes. Lets look at the basic things that need to be in your first aid box.

Arnica 6X pellets taken three per dose as often as every 15 minutes to heal trauma from the inside out. As an internal remedy it is used on open or closed wounds.

Topically Arnica cream or gel is perfect for bumps and bruises. Use it for any kind of trauma that is not bleeding. Apply it topically as needed for pain. You may need it every 10-15 minutes at first but the time stretches out after a couple applications. If you have sore muscles from over exertion the arnica cream will help that too. Use only on closed wounds. It is most effective when used within an hour of the trauma but will help if applied within 24 hours.

Antibacterial hand gel is used for quick cleanup when water is not available.

Bug Bite Ointment used topically. It takes the itch out of bites, and also works on hives.

Tea tree oil is used whenever the wound has any chance of infecting. It is an anti-septic.

If your trauma is bleeding, sprinkle it with Yarrow. This usually works well. If it does not stop the bleeding, use Capsicum.

Capsicum is used to stop bleeding. If you don’t have any handy just use red cayenne pepper. It will sting for a minute but the pepper quickly numbs the nerves and relieves the pain as well.

5 Flower Bach Combination is fantastic in every situation. It gives you energy when tired. Helps you sleep when you can’t relax. It is fantastic topically or internally for pain at any age or situation. It is even safe sprayed or dabbed on a baby when they fuss. 5 flower Combination is also sold as Calming Essence, Distress Remedy, and Rescue Remedy. Take it as often as needing. This product does contain alcohol so should be diluted in food or water for those sensitive to alcohol.

If you are wondering where to get these items, we have put them together into a compact kit that is easy to take with you in your car or backpack.

Pets
Last but not least let’s not forget a bit of relief for your pets. A drop of Eucalyptus Oil on their collar will keep the fleas at bay. It is fine to apply it to the skin, but it may make them sick to their stomach if they lick it off.
